Hotel Central

Getting here is simple: just walk straight from the train and tram station, with plenty of amenities nearby. The staff were lovely and patient with me as a clueless tourist. I also slept well on the comfortable bed, and the pillows were lovely. I got to try the famous German square pillow, which I think was filled with down, and the bedding felt quite luxurious compared with my own. The room was quiet and well soundproofed. I appreciated the proper wall separating the bathroom from the room, unlike the glass panels in some newer hotels. The air conditioning worked well and wasn't too loud. The downside was a cigarette smell in the room, and smokers outside were blowing smoke into reception. Still, I had a good night's sleep and would stay again when I'm in the area.

There are several Biergarten and restaurants within a 10-minute walk, and REWE is about five minutes away if you need toiletries. The hotel was clean, the staff were great, and it's close to everything else. For a quick stop, the room has a TV, fan, hairdryer, and a small table for working. Parking and WiFi are free, though the WiFi was a bit slow. Breakfast is a buffet and costs just 5 euros. The two single beds can't be pushed together, so be sure to ask for the bed setup you want when booking. Even for a multi-day stay, you only get a tiny shampoo packet and no toothpaste. I liked the place and would probably return.

We missed breakfast after waking up late, but the staff kindly packed a lunch for Paul Denino. They were thoughtful and generous about meeting his needs, which made a big difference to our stay. My autistic son Paul had a really enjoyable time, though he found the doorknobs weren't autism-friendly. The receptionist especially stood out, and the service from the whole team was excellent. It made the stay feel magical for our family, with plenty of memories to take home. 10/10, I would recommend it.

The hotel is dated, though clean, and it's conveniently located for Basel.
