The setting by the reservoir is beautiful, especially in fall. The trails were busy every day and the parking lot filled up with people out walking. My balcony had a wonderful view, though its door came off the hinges. They fixed it by the second day. The shower had no door or curtain, which could have sent water everywhere if I hadn’t been careful. Breakfast was good on day one, with all sorts of things in bottles and orange juice, but they seemed to have run out of the juice by the next day. The service made the stay frustrating. An older woman working evenings was extremely unfriendly and had no patience with my broken German. I had a translator in my hand, but she wouldn’t use it with me. One evening the restaurant was closed even though two people were still eating inside, so I had to walk 15 minutes to McDonald’s. On the way back, I saw a trucker urinating by the roadside. Thanks for turning dinner into that. It felt like only two people were working across all the shifts. The area is gorgeous, but the service was just scraping by. I’d have gladly paid 10 euros more per day for better service, a smile when serving food, and not having to wait half an hour for a drink. It feels like a huge missed opportunity.

There’s plenty of parking split between hotel guests and park visitors or rest stop users. The gas station below stays open 24/7, but both the hotel restaurant and the gas station restaurants close in the evening. I didn’t try the hotel restaurants. The baristas knew their stuff, and the coffee and cappuccinos were good. Check the other reviews with photos and skip breakfast. The rooms were air conditioned and clean, with comfortable beds and a good location. Staff were friendly, though outside reception most spoke German. If you arrive late, read the instructions they give you carefully.

The room was clean and spacious, and we had a lovely view of the lake in the woods beside the hotel. Staff were friendly and incredibly helpful, even giving us a free upgrade just to be thoughtful. It was a great price and well worth staying.

We’ve stopped here several times for lunch while traveling, and it’s well worth recommending. The hotel is clean, and the dishes are simple but tasty, with very good value for money. Service staff are lovely and attentive. The terrace and the whole spot are great, with a very nice view. It’s easy to miss because you enter from the back of the highway rest area.
