A-ROSA Gothisches Haus Wernigerode

The sauna area was the highlight of our cold, rainy visit. There were three options, including a medium-heat sauna, a very hot Finnish one with tropical bird sounds, and a great steam sauna, plus a lovely spot to unwind afterward. I didn't check out the other relaxation rooms, though I could easily have stayed in that oasis all day. The hotel is right by the main square, and some breakfast tables look out onto it, good for people-watching. Breakfast had lots of variety and ran from 6:30 to 11:00. My room was comfortable, with a great view and a very good bed. The staff were lovely. A perfect place for a few nights, and I'd definitely recommend it.

Right in the middle of town, and the room felt cozy without being cramped. It was clean and spacious, with a clean bathroom, good counter space, a place to sit, and spots to put our things. Everyone was very helpful and most people spoke English. I'm already planning another trip to Germany and will stay here again.

The bar was perfect, and the drinks were good too. The wellness area was clean and really nice, though using a locker costs €1. I had to go find someone at the main reception for a coin. For a hotel this nice, with wellness included, I'd expect not to need change when coming down in my bathrobe. That was a downside. Dinner tasted great, but the wait was a bit long. And unless you're seated by the windows in the restaurant, the dining area feels like a hallway, which doesn't match the food.

The location was just right, and breakfast had so many tasty choices. The spa is a nice place to relax, but the Gotisches massage package and the service there weren't very good, especially for the price. I brought my daughter for her birthday, so that was disappointing. Also, the corridor carpet smelled bad, at least on the fourth floor.
