The welcome was really nice, and they spoke English as well as German, which made things easier for non-German speakers. The rooms are cozy. Breakfast was good, though vegetarians and vegans still seem to have fewer options, like elsewhere. The bathrooms could use shower curtains and perhaps a fan. The heat this summer may have been unusual, though.

Everything was spotless, including the rooms, bathrooms, and hotel itself. We were shown to our room by the friendly, helpful staff, and the breakfast buffet had an amazing range of choices. It's easy to walk into town from here, and Parkhaus is 150 metres away. Good value.

The rooms are clean, and there's fresh fruit waiting for you each day. Management seems good. Towels aren't changed daily, so you need to reuse them as much as you can. That's to cut down on detergent use and protect the environment.

Breakfast is a very extensive buffet with something for most tastes. The hotel has both smoking and non-smoking rooms, and Wi-Fi works in most areas, though the signal isn't consistent on the top floor. Parking in front is limited, but there's a public multi-storey car park about 50 yards up the road. The area is usually very quiet, and plenty of guests return. It's a family-run hotel a few minutes' walk from Wernigerode Railway Station. Many guests come for the Hartz steam trains (HSB) and like being able to walk into town for dinner at its many restaurants. From the UK, getting to Wernigerode is straightforward. You can fly to Hannover or Berlin Tegel airports and take a train with one or two changes; Eurostar and regional trains are also options.
