Breakfast was okay.

The attached restaurant turned out to be very good. I was doubtful at first because the menu is so extensive, which usually makes me wonder if quality will suffer. Breakfast wasn’t a buffet like at some hotels, but there was plenty of variety and food. The rooms were clean and a good size. Being spoken to informally all the time took a bit of getting used to, though looking back, it gave the place a friendly feel. The parking lot view from outside is a little dreary, but at least there’s plenty of parking.

We were short on staff, I think, and corners seemed to be cut in the wrong places. At the Sunday seminar, a soup served in the room tasted good at first, but the refill was unanimously judged inedible and sent back. The Saturday dinner was disappointing too: although we had booked for 6:30 p.m., our first drinks took about an hour to arrive and the food came two hours later. During our two-day conference, the ordered projector hadn’t been installed. Technicians spent a long time trying to sort it out, so we had to set up our own equipment. They knew how many people were coming, yet the tables were in a T-shape instead of parliamentary style. We rearranged them ourselves and had to ask before the remaining tables were brought in. The stay was okay, but overall disappointing.

The rooms are large, with simple furnishings, and the location is quiet and central, around 10 minutes from Bielefeld city center. Staff were friendly, though having to log in to the internet every hour got annoying. What really disappointed me was breakfast. There’s no buffet; instead, they bring two rolls, a plate with two slices of cheese, butter, two slices each of salami and ham, and a glass of lukewarm tea or coffee. For that breakfast, I’m giving it one star.
