Hotel Bürgerhof Wetzlar

It’s a simple hotel, and parking is a real challenge: there are very few spaces and it’s hard to find a spot nearby. Breakfast was quite weak. On the plus side, from 5 p.m. you can have free drinks, including wine and beer.

I really enjoyed my stay 😊. The rooms are good, there’s a wide breakfast selection, and there’s a playroom upstairs. Such a friendly, kind hotel.

The hotel works well if you’re in town for work or want to visit Wetzlar’s old town. Breakfast was nice, with a decent choice of fruit, vegetables, and eggs. The rooms have seen better days, but they’re clean and everything works. The last renovation was probably in the 1980s. There’s no reception here, so you get your keys from the neighboring hotel. That also means there’s no evening life, so be prepared.

The breakfast is far better than the usual chain hotel fare in the US, and the beer is cheap, good quality, and plentiful. Downstairs, the fresh trout dinner is amazing. The whole building has loads of character, with a classic, historical look, and it used to be an old mail service. The staff are great too. The beds feel a little different from what you’d get in a typical American hotel, and there’s no AC, so keep that in mind in the height of summer. Hotels around here are mostly fairly central, but I’d put this one near the top of the list.
