Hotel & Café Am Schloss Biebrich

I had a ground-floor single room in an annexe, with no proper window, just a very high skylight with opaque glass. It was noisy there, with people coming and going, talking, listening to music, or watching TV all audible. There was also a so-called “emergency exit” that was actually a door into the neighbouring room, so it felt like the neighbours were in my room. I saw my colleague’s single room too, and it was a real cubbyhole with half a window. The website photos and three-star rating are misleading. I absolutely don’t recommend this hotel.

We got to the location easily by bus from the main train station, and it was convenient for starting the Rhinesteig. Reception was very pleasant, the room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the shower just right. Before dinner at the Mexican restaurant across the street, the river promenade nearby was a lovely place for drinks. We had a river-side room, where street noise was a minor issue until midnight. It was unusually warm and sunny that day, so the room was quite hot when we arrived, but open windows and the provided fan cooled it overnight. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. I’d stay again, but not on the street side.

The bus stop is just around the corner, about two minutes away, and now there are two nearby, so check which stop fits the bus number you need. Public transport access is good. It’s a great place to stay near the Rhine - Main River, and they’re flexible about check-in. If you’re travelling by ICE and it’s late or delayed, they leave keys in lockers outside and give you the PIN for an easy self check-in. There’s also a tourist tax to pay directly at the hotel, €10 per person as I remember.

For the two nights we stayed, it was ideal. I booked through Booking dot com, then got confused by the Google reviews because they seemed to describe two different hotels. My impression was that the location is great, the rooms aren’t huge but are perfectly fine, and mine had a Rhine view. It felt modern and clean, with everything I needed, and the reception staff were friendly and helpful. We skipped breakfast both days because we already had other places booked, but it looked like a traditional European breakfast and nobody seemed unhappy with it. There’s also a designated area for bike storage.
