The May Family are fantastic hosts, and the service really stands out: friendly, communicative and flexible. Landgasthof May is in a unique medieval town, with good rooms and delicious food. It’s a lovely choice for a short stay or a longer one.

We’ve tried several dishes and enjoyed them all. The food is tasty and doesn’t sit heavily, which Franconian cooking sometimes can. Expect straightforward, authentic Franconian fare, with local meat, fish and wines at reasonable prices, plus seasonal options such as game. The service is friendly and accommodating. Tables out front face a busy, noisy farm thoroughfare, though there’s a certain charm to it. This is one of Germany’s most exclusive wine-growing and farming regions.

For a very reasonable price, we got a comfortable bed in an extremely quiet, picturesque village. A few small drawbacks: there’s no lift, the tasty breakfast was a little limited in choice, and there was no fridge in the room.
