Dorf Alm Willingen

We got a table easily and the service was quick at first, though the food took quite a while. We didn’t mind the wait since we’d ordered a lot and expected it to be good. We had the metre-long bratwurst, goulash soup, a cheeseburger, two schnitzels, several beers, and white gluhwein. Everything tasted great, and the portions were generous.

Breakfast was amazing, with plenty of choice and nice local food, and our spacious room had a balcony. But I slept terribly because of loud music that went on until 2 a.m. We stayed three nights, and I wish we hadn’t. When I complained at reception, the guy didn’t care. The room was dirty, too, with little clouds of dust on the wall. Finding parking was impossible at first, and we had to drive around town several times before we found a spot. Don’t expect to have dinner at the hotel without a reservation, either. They were also out of bratwurst. I’m disappointed, especially given the high price, because the stay wasn’t what I expected. None of the employees spoke English, and they weren’t helpful, just annoyed. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

We stopped in without a reservation and they still welcomed us warmly and served us. The German food was delicious, and it’s a really nice restaurant. I’d definitely recommend it.

You can set off on several hiking trails right from the village, so the location works really well. The hotel has a traditional German feel and the staff are friendly. The facilities are fine, though not especially modern. At weekends there’s more choice on the menu; otherwise, the schnitzel with fries and starter salad is good.
