Der schöne Asten - Resort Winterberg

Quiet, pleasant location, with a nice sauna and swimming pool. Breakfast and dinner were tasty too.

It was wonderfully quiet in summer, which suited us, and the views around the property were gorgeous. There’s plenty of free parking, and Winterberg is just a five-minute drive away with lots to do. The facilities are quaint and unassuming, with a pool, saunas, and a small kids’ play area. Our room could have been better, and the place could use a little care in spots, though it was mostly clean and tidy. We booked the all-inclusive light option, so breakfast, lunch, and dinner were covered. Breakfast was the same each day with no extra ordering, but still quite good. The dinner buffet changed nightly, and beer, wine, and soft drinks were included. We’ll be back.

The location was good, staff were friendly, and the paths had been cleared of snow. Our room, number 300, was spacious and comfortably warm, but quite outdated. The bed felt like it might fall apart. The basement bathroom smelled awful, probably because of high groundwater, and the shower made such a horrible loud noise that even the front desk employee jumped when he heard it. We paid more than €150 a night, so I expected a better maintained room and fairer food. We had half board: breakfast was fine, with a pot of coffee for each table and a small buffet. Dinner was really poor. The soup and vegetables were extremely salty, and the cod seemed to have been made hours earlier, even though it needs only about 10 minutes and could have been cooked after ordering. It was rubbery, and the salad, pickled red and white cabbage, seemed straight from a jar. We skipped dessert, kiwi and nut ice cream. There were very few guests that evening, so the kitchen wasn’t busy. We sent everything back, but weren’t offered anything else. I told the front desk the next day that we wouldn’t eat there that evening, and they still didn’t offer anything. Based on our experience, I’d choose another hotel next time.

The hotel is lovely, and the room was cozy and beautiful. It’s also quiet and peaceful, which made it a great place for a relaxing holiday. I ordered tomato and mozzarella, plus fries, and they came out really quickly. Both were delicious, and the speed impressed me.
