The chef has worked in a 4-star kitchen and hunts and prepares the meat himself. That helps explain why the food tastes so much better than you'd expect from a restaurant like this. If you're near Winterberg, it's well worth a visit.

We had a sitting area separate from the sleeping area in our room, and you can also have your own kitchen if you want one. This is a new, cozy hotel across the street from the ski area in Altastenberg, so there's no need to drive before heading out. In summer, it's a good base for exploring the area. Dinner was nice, with fresh deer and duck available. The price was good for the quality of this homely hotel.

The location is very good, close to the ski slopes. It's a nice hotel with small apartments, and the owners and staff are very friendly.

The service was about as mediocre as the food, which was expensive.
