Pension Haus Zur Orke

The two owners were extremely nice and accommodating. It was lovely accommodation, and we felt very comfortable there.

The hosts were very friendly, the guesthouse was warm and clean, and parking was easy. The shared bathroom didn't bother us at all, it was spotless. Breakfast came promptly to the table assigned to our room, so there was no buffet or need to ask for anything. It was delicious and generous. The price felt excellent for what we got, and we really enjoyed our stay. We’ll come back sometime. The decor is a matter of taste, though. I used to have a severe dust allergy and thought “Whoa!” when I first walked in, but I didn't sneeze at all. Maybe I react less now, or maybe it's just exceptionally clean. With so many carpets, someone with a serious dust allergy might still have a hard time.

The breakfast was excellent, a traditional spread that seemed very well preserved, and the hostess had recognized me by my name and where I was from when I arrived. My room had a bed, a small wardrobe, and a cramped table. I could store my bicycle easily, though heavy rain meant I couldn't cycle and ended up walking a lot. The house itself gave me a bit of a shock: dolls and rugs lined the hallways, with a figurine or doll on every step, and the toilet and shower were on a mezzanine. There was no TV or radio in the room, so I had to use the common room, but there was no internet for listening to the radio. The hostess was always watching TV and smoking cigarettes, so I couldn't stay there more than half an hour. I’m sorry, but this just wasn't ideal, and I can’t recommend the place.

I spent another week at Haus zur Orke, and the location of the guesthouse is simply great. The hosts are friendly and helpful, and they always make the stay pleasant. You can bring your dog too. I was delighted with the stay again, and I’ll go back in early July, this time with my little dog Piet.
