I did pay the bill, but I found the way this was handled unprofessional. My son had a motorcycle accident, so I contacted the hotel through Booking.com to ask whether I could cancel after the 12/14-day cancellation deadline and save some money. The hotel didn’t reply, so I assumed I was out of luck and would have to pay. The emails are still in the booking portal. On the scheduled arrival date, they called to ask when I’d get there. I explained that I’d emailed and wasn’t coming, but since I hadn’t received a refund, I hadn’t formally canceled. I later checked the hotel’s website and saw its terms said cancellations made 14-1 days beforehand were possible with a reduced refund. When I called to ask why nobody had answered my email, they just said, “I wasn’t home that day.” They told me I hadn’t canceled and should pay, which I did.

The winemakers are friendly and welcoming, and we’d be glad to come back. You can taste and, of course, buy some great wines in a lovely wine shop or in a sheltered spot in the courtyard.

Breakfast was okay, but the landlady wasn’t especially friendly. The guesthouse feels like it’s been stuck in the past for 40 years, and the price just doesn’t feel reasonable for what you get anymore.

We took a case of Scheurebe home because we liked it so much. First, though, we enjoyed two glasses, perfectly chilled, while taking in the lovely view. The beer garden is beautiful, right beside the Main River and the bike path. It’s self-service, and the young man at the bar greeted us so warmly and made us feel like old friends. With staff that friendly and a setting like that, we’ll be back very soon.
