Hotel Schwedenhaus Wismar

Very good breakfast for the price, plus clean, roomy family rooms in a cozy setting and good bicycle storage. English-language service is at the usual German level, meaning it doesn't quite exist ☺️. Strong recommendation for families traveling by bike.

After a day's drive, all I needed was one good night in a small hotel, and the bed let me down badly. The pillow had no shape, and the mattress was extremely uneven. The room was small but neat, clean, and space efficient, and breakfast was good. The wifi worked, though it was slow at times. One other drawback: stairs everywhere, so be ready to carry things up and down.

Everything was clean, modern, and functional, and the staff were friendly. The arrangements and organization were easy, which made for an enjoyable stay. I wouldn't call it a five-star hotel, but it doesn't need to be one. Parking on the hotel grounds is free, a nice extra. The location in a residential part of a small German town is alright, though not especially great. I'd recommend it for solo business travelers and young or middle-aged couples. It might also be great for young families, while older people may prefer a different room layout.

The price was reasonable, and the place was quiet. Our room had a nicely redone bathroom, and the staff were very nice and helpful, though they have to work with what they have. Breakfast took some checking to find buns that weren't rock hard. Wifi was very poor, sometimes out altogether, and after disconnecting you might need a new password each time. Not reliable for checking email or working. The city center is a few minutes away by car. It felt like an average US-style motel 😉.
