The quiet countryside, kind staff and good food made this feel like such a peaceful place to spend the weekend. We arrived late, but the staff waited for us and showed us around. We were the only guests that night and loved having the place to ourselves. We’d stumbled across St. Oberholz online and booked because it looked nice. We had no idea it would turn out to be such a lovely getaway. There’s a video online too, @sunandsimplicity 😊

The countryside was beautiful and peaceful, and the staff were kind and helpful. I also really liked the food, sauna and pool. The room design wasn’t quite my taste. It had a large raised mattress, a small table and a closet, and I felt the space could have been laid out better.

It’s a calm, well-designed place, and the staff were friendly and clearly doing their best. Still, for the price, the property and amenities feel limited. We stayed a couple of nights, and the whole time there were children screaming. I’m not sure whether it’s meant to be a family retreat. There are a lot of rules and little gaps in the experience. Sparkling water was only available roughly from 8 to 6 and had to be requested. The small pool had children’s hours for much of the day, and dinner came with assigned seating. The coffee was from a service-station-style vollautomat, and breakfast was a bit sad. We’d wanted to love it, but it felt more like a coworking space with a hotel and small pool than a spa retreat. Vabali berlin would’ve been much more relaxing and immersive, and cost far less.

My friend emailed the hotel manager about all this after our stay. The manager said she’d act right away, but that was July 17, six months ago, and despite several follow-ups we never heard back. That was the final part of an absolute horror story. We paid 260 euros for one night, so I expected at least some service. When we tried to get help with our room, we were told, “Sorry, the people are gone, no one can do anything for you.” That’s an absurd response in a hospitality setting. The room faced directly onto the restaurant, with other guests just 50 centimeters away. We had to keep the curtains shut for any privacy, but the room was so humid we could barely breathe. Opening the windows meant noise and people looking in at us like we were in a zoo. They talked outside our window until midnight, and when we asked staff for help, they said, “Oh, they will be done soon.” It went on for another two hours. The windows only opened a little, so with them shut we were suffocating, and with them open we couldn’t sleep. It was my friend’s birthday, and she’d mentioned the occasion in the booking. Nobody acknowledged it once. At the restaurant, we ordered zucchini and got only the vegetable peels. At breakfast, we ordered two drinks and were charged 9 euros. I had already paid extra for the expensive breakfast, and nobody had told us the drinks weren’t included. When I raised it at checkout, I was simply told, “Yes, it is not included.”

The pool and wellness area are stunning, and the whole hotel has been designed and renovated with real attention to detail. We had a super relaxing weekend and will definitely return. It’s a beautiful boutique hotel about a 1-1.5h drive from Berlin, with great service, amazing food and lovely nature.
