Hotel Gasthof Hecht

Frau Stadler made my stay memorable and enjoyable, and I'm grateful to her for that. This is a cozy, charming family-run place with a real historic feel, like something from a book or a movie. The husband and wife who own it are exceptional. The restaurant, breakfast, rooms, and pricing were all exceptionally good. If you're in Wolfach, this hotel is a must for your stay.

We had a very nice stay at Gasthof Hecht, with a warm welcome, a nice bedroom, and a very good breakfast. One issue: the English version of the website lists the wrong price, €38 per person, while the actual price is €44-48. I hope they correct it quickly, since finding a 20% difference from the advertised price was an unpleasant surprise.

An absolute nightmare. I booked one night here with my children, aged 4 and 6. In 45 years and after staying in a thousand hotels around the world, from one to five stars, this was my worst stay. The little restaurant was booked for a private party but was overcrowded, with people standing everywhere. A band with trumpets and timpani was playing. In that tiny medieval hotel, it might as well have been Metallica performing live, or an earthquake. Before long there were beer puddles on the floor and smoke everywhere. I have nothing against private parties, but I expected the noise to stop by 10 pm because hotel guests were staying there, or at least by midnight. Instead, the music got louder and faster, people were screaming, and at a quarter to one in the morning I had no choice but to leave with the children and drive 250 km home. It was horrible thinking of my crying children, or imagining us having breakfast the next morning amid beer puddles and the smell of old cigarette smoke.

The rooms are kept in good shape, and the food was wonderful. A really beautiful place to stay.
