At 55 euros for the night, it was decent value for a three-star place, though I’d pick another hotel next time. The location is handy, with central bus connections just a few metres away, the center a short walk off, and the train station about ten minutes on foot. The building and decor feel dated, and while the standard room had a good amount of space, the bathroom was tiny. The shower was especially cramped for someone of average build, like me at 175 cm. Staff didn’t seem very friendly to me: at check-in I was handed a key and told the room was upstairs, and asking for a wake-up call seemed to bother them. They did call a cab without a problem. Breakfast was a small buffet with bread, cheese, yogurt, marmalade and cold cuts. Fine for the price, nothing special.

Out of the 49 hotels my wife and I have stayed in across Germany over eight years, this was easily the worst. We started out with a nice room, then management said we had to move so the plumbing could be fixed, and promised we could return once it was done. They put us in a tiny, very hot room facing south. A few hours later, we saw another guest in the room that supposedly had the plumbing problem. At dinner my wife ordered a salad that came drenched in dressing. When she asked for one with the dressing on the side in a carafe, the waiter argued with her. Not a friendly hotel!

My father was used to five-star hotels around the world and had never had an experience like this. He was very upset, and I felt embarrassed because I had arranged the trip. He died a few weeks later, at the end of July, and this was his last trip outside Belgium. We had booked two nights for early July 2022. The hotel was closed when we arrived, so we had to call. My father's room hadn't been cleaned, and the owner only gave him a key to another room that evening. The next day she threw us out, claiming my children had made too much mess in the breakfast room, which wasn't true. Breakfast was very limited: one Brötchen per person, some orange juice, and not enough yogurt for everyone. By the time my father arrived, nothing was left. I think she was angry because we ate everything. We had to find somewhere else to stay and pay the bill in cash, since cards weren't accepted. The owner was extremely hostile, cold and unwelcoming. I strongly recommend choosing another hotel in wolfenbüttel.

It has the warm, cozy feel of grandma's house, and a rustic inn with a tavern is a better way to think of it than just a hotel. The food has a local reputation, and the dining room gets very busy in the evenings, so booking ahead is recommended. I had a comfortable bed, a clean room and bathroom, and tasty breakfast. The only drawback for me was the wi-fi, which was weak and slow. Some people may complain about the conditions, perhaps because their expectations are too high, but I found the place charming and a good fit for this kind of town. I was glad I stayed.

Loved the old-fashioned atmosphere and the friendly service. It's a classic German restaurant, pork knuckle on the menu, and the portions are generous.
