Parkhotel Prinz Carl

The mattress was okay, and breakfast was good, but this may have been the filthiest hotel we've ever stayed in. It doesn't deserve a 4 star rating. The bathroom photos tell the story. I dropped a ring by accident and had to lift the mattress to find it, and that's when we saw how dusty the floor was. The furniture is very outdated.

**Note:** The hotel bar and restaurant are closed. À la carte breakfast is available. Most of the staff were very accommodating with everything we needed, and the food was quite reasonable back when it was available. We ate at the hotel most of the week because of our busy work schedules. But the rooms, especially the bathrooms, are dated. Our shower leaked onto the floor, the old shower head was caked with buildup, and the bed pillows were past their best. Wi-Fi was limited in one of our three rooms, so if internet access matters, check with reception about your room's signal. It was difficult to rate this place because the city has few, if any, other establishments of a similar standard. I stayed for four months, so I probably saw more than a short-term guest might. Some of these issues may not come up or matter during a brief stay.

There were four of us, but the room had only three beds. Once the hotel realized the mistake, they offered just one single room and a mere €10 discount. The receptionist was unfriendly, and there was nowhere secure to keep our bicycles overnight. I'd look for somewhere else to stay.

For the price, I'd stay again. The rooms are clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The bathrooms are nice, with walk-in showers, and there's a minibar with alcohol and soft drinks. Beds are the usual small European size. You can open the windows all the way and ask reception for a fan, since there's no AC. Wi-Fi is unreliable, and there are no vending or ice machines. Breakfast includes American and European food, and there's a bar and restaurant. Shops and other restaurants are about 1 km away. The TV has a few English-language news channels.
