Der Schwarze Herrgott

The evening had a really cozy feel, and the service was friendly and attentive, even with our large group. The portions, though, were shockingly small for the price. We often have tapas in Mainz and Mannheim, so we had a good comparison: 5 to 7 euros for three tiny stuffed mushrooms, four little tomatoes with one mini mozzarella ball, or three paper-thin sausage slices just didn't feel reasonable. We know tapas are small and can cost more, but this was too much. Even the espresso arrived cold. Such a shame.

The breakfast was all homemade and delicious. We especially liked the porridge, omelet, and rolls, and thought it was great value. We only spent one night at the Schwarzer Herrgott while passing through, but it was a lovely short stay. The little hotel is charming and peaceful among the vineyards, and the hostess was welcoming and helpful. There were board games to try, and we played almost all of them, which made for a fun change of pace. Thanks for the lovely visit. We'd happily come back if we're in the area again.

We had such a lovely wine hike, with breathtaking views across the Palatinate region. This warm, family-run hotel made the short break even better, with beautifully furnished rooms and fantastic service. The food was incredibly tasty, and the homemade treats ranged from spreads to freshly baked bread. We also enjoyed the VIP tapas evening, with flavors from across Southern Europe. We'd love to return!

The owners' personal, attentive service really stood out during our off-season stay at the Hotel Schwarzen Herrgott. It was Tuesday, so dinner wasn't normally available, and the restaurant was closed, but they still surprised us with a wonderful set dinner. That kind of hospitality is rare. Our room was spacious, with a beautiful view, and we liked the historic yet modern feel of the place. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic, with everything freshly prepared.
