Hotel Rosengarten

The staff were very friendly, and breakfast was good. The rooms, beds and pillows could all do with being renewed.

A lovely little hotel near the town’s main street. The beds were comfortable, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. I’d definitely recommend it.

The garden, the sunny breakfast room overlooking it, the parking lot, and the hotel’s location were the good parts. Everything else left me feeling it deserved only one star. The staff were extremely unfriendly. I arrived with a family member after my parents had already checked in, but even with my ID they wouldn’t let me in and told me to call my parents to open the room. There also aren’t two keys per room. At checkout, we asked for a bottle of water for the trip. Reception sent us to the restaurant, where we asked for still water but were given “medium.” When we said we wanted still, the girl there insisted that was still water. It definitely wasn’t. She then went to fetch a still bottle and took another five minutes, even though the restaurant was practically empty, with just two small tables occupied and three waiters. At breakfast I asked for lactose-free milk because I’m intolerant. They only had soy milk. My dad had seen oat milk, which I prefer, so I asked for that, but they said they only had soy and handed me the full, unopened carton as if I’d taken it from a supermarket. The elevator was extremely dirty and painfully slow, taking ages for the doors to close. The rooms were so warm that everyone I knew who stayed there that night, across several rooms, sweated. The bathrooms felt like saunas, and there was no air conditioner or ventilator. I’d considered giving two stars for the location, but the rest really only deserved one.

I first went there to eat, and I keep coming back whenever I’m on vacation. I’ve been doing that for 35 years.
