Aakirkeby Bed and Breakfast

Breakfast was in the family's own kitchen, and the food seemed to be their leftovers. The private lodging was run-down, with a cluttered entrance where I had to step over the family's shoes. To shut and lock the shower cubicle, I had to reach around behind its side.

The bedding and towels were clean, and the house is on a quiet road, so the location was okay. Otherwise, the place felt neglected, including the garden. There was nowhere free in the kitchen, the doors didn't close properly, and there was no key to lock the door. Ceiling tiles were hanging down, and things throughout the house were worn and untidy. We parked in the public lot across the road and skipped breakfast because we didn't want to spend any more time inside than necessary.

Ole was so welcoming to my two small dogs. He also made breakfast a chance to hear his knowledge of Bornholm and his funny old stories about the island. A former college teacher, he has a comfortable, country-house way about him, and it gives the place an English private country atmosphere. The house itself is in beautiful old condition, but all that was overshadowed by the warm welcome. Just got back from the bed and breakfast in Åkirkeby. A. Sørensen

He stayed with us for the whole breakfast in his own kitchen and was happy to share what he knew about the places we wanted to visit. The room was really cozy, and the stay was actually very nice.
