The bathrooms were the reality check here. Just a handful of shower stalls for a whole room of capsules meant a morning queue that tested everyone’s patience and coordination. The location by Nyhavn is absurdly good, right in one of the priciest areas of an already expensive city. Even passing a café made my wallet feel lighter. Outside, the 17th-century canal houses and colorful fronts look like a postcard, with tourists taking the same photo every few seconds. Inside, the capsule pod does what it needs to: you can sleep and breathe. If you’re lucky, you might even forget you’re sharing a big room with what feels like all of Europe’s backpackers. Privacy is more of an idea than a physical reality. It’s the usual tradeoff: prime location, budget capsule living, and the sense that even sleep costs premium real estate in Copenhagen.

We chose the hostel mainly for its location, and the capsule and bathrooms were clean, but I wouldn’t come back. The shower nozzles were oddly powerful, and most bathrooms had no hooks for clothes or bags and no counter space by the sinks. In the shared public area, there were shoe racks but no tables or chairs to set things on. It could also use more mirrors and hooks. At least it was cheap, I guess.

The common room is small, with two tables and room for up to eight people. You can have tea or coffee there, or hang out with friends over board games or cards. There’s also a shared check-in and games room, with two luggage lockers, one small and one large; both cost the same, with details available on site. Check-out is self-service too, including leaving the building. Getting there from the train station with suitcases is a rough walk. The tiled sidewalks make luggage difficult to manage. You follow the waterfront, go through two large arches, and continue to a yellow building. There are two entrances at the left corner, and you check yourself in. After that, you get a notification with your capsule number and an email with its unlock code. There’s no elevator in the three-storey building, so you have to haul your bags upstairs. Staff can theoretically help, but they weren’t very proactive or enthusiastic. When I left, nobody helped me carry my suitcase down either. The capsule has very poor soundproofing, so other guests are easy to hear. Ventilation starts on by default and needs to be switched off with a button. It made me worry I might wake up coughing, though I think this is a common capsule hotel issue rather than something unique to this place. Towels and bedding weren’t free, so you have to buy them separately. On the third floor, there were no bathroom hairdryers, and even the one I brought wouldn’t work there.

The location is fantastic, everything was clean, and the staff were nice. But I wouldn’t stay here if getting a good night’s sleep matters to you. My room didn’t match the website photos, which showed at least some space. This one was only as wide as the bed, with just enough room for the door to open at the end. I had to close my luggage on the floor to open the door, and I can’t see how two people’s bags would fit. It was beside the stairwell, and the thin walls let in every late-night footstep and conversation. Luggage storage is 160dkk for 24 hours. The next option is six hours, with no duration in between, so storing your bags for a day out gets expensive.

We had a very happy stay. The place is clean, the staff are friendly, and the pods are spacious enough for two. The price and location are both great. There’s a nice bar downstairs that seems reasonably priced, and we only discovered on our last day that morning coffee is free. They also gave us hot water for the pot noodles they sell. I don’t understand the negative reviews.
