Danhostel Hillerød

It’s quiet and clean, out on the outskirts of Hillerød, with a great location if you want to get away from the city and stay among nature. There’s plenty of parking, and the staff are professional and friendly. Cleanliness really stands out here. I’d recommend it for a comfortable, peaceful stay.

We couldn’t reach them before arriving because we were left on hold for a long time, and a reservation mistake meant we had no linens or towels. The reception was often unattended, so there was no one available to sort out the problem. The place itself is in good condition, with quiet trails nearby and lots to do, including a playground, board games, ping-pong, and TV. On our second day, though, all the ping-pong balls were broken.

The friendly staff deserve the two stars, but we didn’t enjoy staying at Danhostel. A group of 15-20 kids from a camp or school was there, making a lot of noise at night. They ran along the hallway and knocked on our door. Luckily, our 18-month-old baby stayed asleep. We also couldn’t sleep because we were itchy all night from what seemed like bedbugs or something.

A terrible experience. There was nobody at reception when we arrived, and no envelope with my room key. Someone helped us out and gave us a room, but it was already booked for somebody else. At 01:50, while we were asleep, those guests came into our room because they’d been assigned the same one. They left after about 30 minutes to call the person responsible. When we checked out in the morning, the staff didn’t even offer an apology.
