Hotel Strandlyst

The staff were super lovely, and the guy did bring a hairdryer back to my room after saying there was one in the main building's common area. Still, no hairdryer in the room to start with, and the taxi from the ferries was expensive. There's not much around the hotel either. It felt like staying in your grandparents' attic. They call it maintaining the “charm,” but to me that means they won't upgrade things. There was mold in the bathroom, which needs a better cleaning routine. The furniture was old, the bed uncomfortable, and the walls so thin I heard the person next door snoring all night.

The beach is only a short walk away, and the shared areas are nice for sitting and chatting or playing with family. You might hope for bigger rooms or a TV, but you're not really here to stay cooped up in your room. I only stayed one night this time. The welcome in the reception area and the lovely atmosphere made an impression, and the staff were very friendly and ready to help. I'd like to stay longer, and will be back to host a meditation retreat in the autumn. I'll also return with my husband to explore the area and hike along the coast.

We gave up our second night without a refund and moved to an actual hotel that cost less. The breakfast here was quite decent, which is why I gave it two stars. The rooms were tiny and only somewhat clean, with broken lamps, poor lighting and dark hallways. You can hear people in other rooms drop pins or zip up their pants. No TV, minibar, iron, kettle or hairdryer, and no room tidying between nights. For rooms this small, I expected to pay half as much. We've stayed in hostels with better rooms. Welcome to the 70s.

The best part was the kind, friendly service from Malene and the staff, from arriving at reception right through handing in the key and saying 'See you again.' Hotel Strandlyst Badehotel is decorated throughout in an authentic bathing hotel style, with lovely recycled finds and care given to the little details. The rooms were cozy and the beds good, but we especially enjoyed spending evenings in the living rooms. They're peaceful, comfortable places to relax and enjoy company. We had a wonderful stay 😊
