A charming old building, and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was plentiful, and dogs are allowed. If your room faces the street, you can hear the church bells, though they weren’t too bothersome.

The view from my room, the cheapest one, was gorgeous. I really love this place. It’s down to earth and wonderfully odd, right in the heart of Næstved, with all sorts of architecture around, from Gothic and Renaissance to Fin de Siècle and modern Nordic styles. The locals are pretty mainstream, but very helpful and friendly, and generally good looking! It’s honestly priced, and luxuries are few and far between. One strange upscale touch is the huge Greenlandic marble downstairs. The interiors can be wonderfully gaudy, and the rooms are practical rather than stylish. If you want top tier Danish design, this isn’t the place, unless you’re the sort who appreciates the exquisite details left over from its former glory days. The staff are charming, helpful, and welcoming, if a little unpolished. There’s a peculiar smell, so bring canned coffee or a drink you like. The foyer has a nice, affordable selection of drinks. This isn’t a luxury resort, and doesn’t pretend to be, but it’s a lovely place for a different kind of experience beyond the Louvre, Nørrebro, and the usual royal European sights.

The food was very nice and typical of Denmark, and the small city has a nice area. The room decor looks a little dated next to the rest of the hotel, but it still does the job.

It’s a charming old building in the city center, but parking was difficult. I ended up about 500 meters away. At reception, all we found was an envelope with instructions and our room key. There wasn’t much staff around to help guests. The room was small and old, and badly in need of renovation, like the rest of the hotel. The wall-to-wall carpet was dirty. There was no coffee maker in the room and no coffee for guests in the lobby.
