Hotel Marie

The hotel is right in the center, with bars and pubs just below and next door, so weekends can be a bit noisy at night. The rooms are spacious, nicely equipped, and have a modern bathroom and mini-kitchen. There's a large parking area in the courtyard, plus a pleasant garden with seating and a cozy breakfast room. Breakfast is average but has enough choice and some delicious sweet pastries. The scrambled eggs, though, are no good at all.

We arrived for a pre-booked six-night stay and were first given a room that would have been lovely as a single, but felt very small for two. Storage was so limited that we could only unpack one suitcase. The shower room, by contrast, was extremely large. After three nights we moved to a two-bedroom apartment, which was more than we needed but very well equipped and comfortable.

I tried both an apartment and one of their double rooms, and found each worked well for either a short or longer stay. The beds were comfortable and roomy, even for me at 6 ft 2, and the en suite bathrooms were a good size with powerful showers. Breakfast is provided and should satisfy those morning cravings. The hotel is just a stone's throw from some fantastic cafes and restaurants, so it's easy to try local food. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, which made the visit feel like a pleasant home away from home.

We struck gold with Hotel Marie. It's immaculate, the staff are friendly, and the location is perfect. Our room was spacious, clean, well equipped, and homey. It's the kind of hotel you hope to find when booking somewhere new. Skagen is ideal too, clean and friendly, with plenty to do and see. We can't wait to come back.
