Hotel Sønderborg Garni

The room was in rough shape, with very old furniture, cobwebs on the windows, and such a cramped bathroom that I was glad I’m slim enough to use the toilet. The price felt far too high for what was provided. Breakfast was basic and, on weekends, doesn’t start until 8 a.m., which is quite late. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the city center and close to the river. One staff member with brown hair was kind and pleasant; the blonde one came across as arrogant.

The room was spacious, with a comfortable bed, a nice shower and toilet, and large windows. Everything was clean and tidy, and the atmosphere felt welcoming. Breakfast was freshly prepared Danish food, with a large pot of coffee and cream on every table. The location is central, near the palace, windmill, beach, restaurants, and supermarkets.

Such a shame, because the building is beautiful, the location is great, breakfast is good, and the people were nice enough. Our room was a good size, though a little dated. But the water pressure was poor, and there were ants in the bathroom and cobwebs in the room. If those things matter to you, stay somewhere else.

The breakfast employee was friendly and very helpful, but the owner’s rude, unfriendly manner made the stay a no-go. Don’t expect a warm welcome. We had two rooms, both very outdated, especially the bathrooms, and the beds were old, small, and uncomfortable. Far too expensive for what you get. I wouldn’t recommend it.
