Thyboron Cottages

There are few restaurants open in Thyboron outside Danish school holidays, but the park itself has a lot going for it. The beach is about 1 km away, and Thyboron Cottages has a great pool plus a fitness center with all kinds of sports. The gym costs extra and needs to be booked on the website. The grounds are well maintained, the shop is well stocked, and you can order baked goods for the following day. The cottages are spacious and have what you need to cook, apart from an oven. There's one in the communal area, along with washers and dryers. The one deduction for me is the weak Wi-Fi, which you have to pay for. A lovely holiday park, and highly recommended.

The pool is free to use, and the beach is great. It's a quiet place in the off-season and very clean. The cabins are small and basic, with beds that are only so-so, and the price feels quite high for this kind of cabin. Linen costs extra, about €12 per person, which is a fairly hefty fee. If you're interested in history, especially bunkers and World War II, this is the place for you.

Getting a proper final bill was a real drawback for me. Electricity and water are covered by a flat amount in the rent, and although extra use costs more, there's no refund if you use less. The site and cabins are clean and well kept, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. They don't speak German, which I prefer, but are fluent in Danish and English. You can't reserve towels or bed linen in advance, though you can pay for them at reception. The location is very good if you don't mind being right next to a cemetery. In bad weather, the sports hall is only available during four of the Danish school holidays; the rest of the time schools and local sports clubs use it, and it isn't part of the site.

It was fun and educational to explore the corridors on my own. Highly recommended.
