Riverside Hotel

The rooms are clean, spacious, and well equipped for guests. Breakfast was basic, just fruit, eggs, and some sausages, and nothing special. Reception was helpful, and they managed to get my laundry done the same day. There’s a lovely, relaxing river flowing behind the hotel.

The restaurant is the best, and we loved the food. We came to celebrate our 14th Valentines together and had a wonderful stay. The place is peaceful and relaxing, the rooms are very nice and clean, and the staff are so friendly and go out of their way to meet our needs. Everyone from housekeeping to the owners was amazing to us. On Valentines, they decorated our room beautifully as a surprise. Our transport guy, Mr.Wallace, was always on time and safely took us everywhere we wanted to go each day. If you want to explore the island and its tours, he’s your guy. We’re glad we chose this place, highly recommend it, and will definitely be back. Thank you all.

The balconies look out over the rivers and flowering trees behind the hotel, which was probably the best part of my stay. Given that Dominica doesn’t have many places to stay, I tried to keep my expectations realistic. This is a Chinese-run hotel that may be more geared toward workers on island projects than tourists. My room had a kitchenette and living area separate from the bedroom, though I barely used them. The AC is in the bedroom, so the other room stays hot. The bed and bathroom are basic, and the water heater takes some figuring out, though it works. Water pressure isn’t great, but it’s a budget hotel. I ate at the restaurant after a couple of places I wanted to try turned out to be missing. It’s a Chinese restaurant, with average Western-style Chinese food. Breakfast felt almost like an obligation: an egg and a piece of toast, though I guess that’s better than nothing. Why four stars? There aren’t many accommodations on the island, so you take what you get.

The location is close to town, mini-markets, and a handful of places to eat during the day. The room was cool with AC, bright lighting, and a router in every room, so the signal was strong and consistent. We had power outages on two of my three days there, or two nights, but Steven said it was no problem because he had a generator. It kicked in within two minutes and was powerful enough to run the AC. The staff were so helpful and friendly, from owners Steven and Susan to Cynthia, Valda, and the two cleaning ladies. Steven even drove me to the bus stop and offered sightseeing options. There’s a restaurant on site, but it closes on Monday.
