La Flamboyant Hotel

Jennifer and the staff made the stay a really positive experience. They were happy to help us find tours, make calls, and print work documents. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable, with good air conditioning. The location is great, though street noise can be an issue at night. Overall, we had a great experience.

The location gets one star, but everything else was shockingly bad. The rooms were dirty, the windows were broken and would fall open at night, letting in a massive number of mosquitoes. The air conditioning was broken in most rooms, and there’s no elevator, so carrying a heavy bag upstairs is a pain. The front desk staff were cold and unhelpful, seeming more annoyed by guests than glad to have them. I couldn’t wait to leave, and I was glad I didn’t come away with fleas or something else. The linen was dirty too. When I asked for it to be changed, I got a hostile glare. I pointed out the brown spots all over it, but was told it had been laundered and that was just the condition of the linen. It was threadbare, rough muslin. I wasn’t expecting Egyptian cotton, just basic cleanliness.

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to foreigners. We booked through bookin.com, and when we arrived they said we could pay later. The next day, one of the junior staff accosted me and said we needed to pay. We also had to switch rooms because the first one felt a bit too cozy for two grown men. They told us the room price, then tried to raise it twice over the following days. On checkout day, they came and told us we had to leave at 11 am, even though that wasn’t the checkout time. The whole stay was unpleasant. I felt a lot of aggression and hostility, and by the end I felt like I’d been thrown out onto the street.

The owner is amazing, the food is delicious, and the staff are friendly. It’s very clean and right in the heart of town, within walking distance of everything. You won’t be disappointed. Don’t wait, book now.
