Hotel Loro Tuerto

I’d come back here next time I’m in Barahona. It’s a cheap, clean hotel with small, cozy rooms, and the location works well: the road to playa rafael beach is about a 20-minute drive away. The host or manager was really friendly, welcomed us warmly, brought coffee in the morning, and checked whether we needed anything.

Junior was a gracious host and very helpful with whatever we needed. You can get a simple breakfast, though this is a rustic little hotel and not a fancy one. It’s just around the corner from the bus station, banks, and cambios, with the ocean and restaurants a few blocks away. Bring pesos in cash, since they don’t take cards or dollars.

There’s a sweet little courtyard with hammocks inside. The windows face away from the street, which is a real plus in the noisy, lively cities of the Dominican Republic. The rooms are simple, and the place is right in town.

You can walk to pretty much everything in about five minutes, including the coast, ATMs, food, the caribe bus station, and grocery stores. It’s a nice downtown spot in Barahona, with a shared area outside the rooms that has hammocks and seating, plus a few cats lounging around. The rooms are nice, and the modern air conditioners work well. The staff are friendly and make things easy for English-only speakers. I recommend it.
