Being in the middle of Friusa makes this a good base if you want to experience everyday Dominican life. It’s on a quiet side street, a few minutes from the center, with a department store a block away and a supermarket about five minutes on foot. The main bus station is around ten minutes away; I used it for a day trip to Santo Domingo, and it serves lots of other places too. There’s also a nearby guagua stop, with rides to the beach for under $1. Augie, the property manager, is warm and helpful. He lives there and is around most of the time. He juggles a lot, so a WhatsApp reply might not be instant, but he usually gets back within minutes. When the large fridge stopped working, he brought a small one, and he lent me an air fryer when I wanted to warm leftovers. Everyone there was friendly, and the logs are cute. A taxi driver lives on site and Augie can put you in touch with him. He was friendly and charged a reasonable price. The place doesn’t actually provide the airport shuttle advertised on Booking.com. A couple of practical things: hot water depends on the solar panels, so it’s available during the day, and you have to let the shower run a few minutes because of the long pipe. It helps to keep expectations realistic. If you need everything spotless or a front desk ready to respond around the clock, this may not suit you. For a comfortable stay in a safe spot in a lively Dominican town, it worked well for me.
