Velero Beach Resort

The oceanfront property is beautiful and has excellent views. The downside is that you have to walk several blocks to reach a beach you can actually use.

The pool sits right beside the ocean and is amazing, and the restaurant has good food at reasonable prices. Drinks are well priced during happy hour too. The landscaping is beautifully kept and very tropical. It’s a smaller resort, with friendly, accommodating staff. You can walk to all the nightlife in Cabarete, but it’s far enough away that it stays quiet when you’re trying to sleep. Clean and secure, it’s the best place to stay in Cabarete.

The room itself was large, and the bathroom was large too. The food was great, and checkout at 1 pm was a plus. We had a decent view from the top floor, but getting there meant hauling several bags up three narrow spiral staircases. The bed in the photos was a standard height king, but the one we got was a low platform, only about 3 inches off the floor. The shower gel dispenser didn’t work. I complained several times without getting it fixed, so I ended up using shampoo for everything. The AC was in the corridor by the front door, and the cool air didn’t reach the sleeping area, so we had to use the ceiling fan.

A quieter getaway tucked away from the noise in Cabarete, though there is still some activity. There’s a restaurant on site and plenty of other choices nearby, including a supermarket about a three minute walk away. The rooms are clean and well equipped, and I’d recommend the junior suites. It’s my favorite getaway on the north coast.
