Gran Jimenoa Hotel

Some parts look abandoned, and the pool is ugly and dirty while the bar is closed. There’s no hot water in the shower, which is odd for a hotel. I reported it and was told it would be fixed, but nothing changed. It seems like this may once have been a good hotel, judging by what remains, but now it looks like it could fall apart soon. I think it might be close to bankruptcy, so be careful when booking.

The room was loud enough that pool activity and people making noise late at night kept us from getting much sleep. After hiking Pico Duarte, we arrived at Gran Jimenoa Hotel around 7:00 PM exhausted and just wanting to rest. Our rooms were booked online beforehand, yet reception took two hours to check us in, and we didn't get to the rooms until after 9pm. We sat waiting while staff struggled to process the reservation. The man at the front desk that night, who had facial hair, was particularly dismissive and unfriendly, barely acknowledging us. There was no apology, urgency, or basic courtesy. The whole thing was frustrating and exhausting, and the rudeness made it worse. We travel a lot and can’t recall another hotel handling a simple check-in this badly. Between the messy process, unprofessional treatment, and noise, I wouldn’t stay here again.

The gardens and river make for a gorgeous setting, with beautiful planting around the grounds. Unfortunately, our room felt tired, with a damp bathroom, a questionable shower, and an old mattress. The staff were surly, unhelpful, and seemed uninterested.

Families have plenty to do here, with a children’s playground, billiards, and ping pong. The property is beautiful, with a good restaurant and swimming pool, and the staff are friendly. The location alone earns it five stars.
