Casa del Mar Lodge

We’ve been twice and love the privacy, garden, and the sound of the ocean all night. Breakfast is served at the table, and the sunrise comes straight into the oceanfront room window. The rooms are due for renovation, but it’s still a great place. I recommend it.

The service was awful, and the place felt filthy and overpriced. Our room looked nice, but it was hot with only a fan, the bathroom door wouldn’t close, and we found a big black spider in there. Traveling with two toddlers made that especially unpleasant. There was no water after midnight, and it only came back at 6am. I don’t understand why. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told he wasn’t around. The included breakfast was a tiny portion, with extra food costing more. The coffee looked old and off, like dirty water instead of black coffee. The food was nicely presented, but tasted off and salty. The jacuzzi hasn’t worked for a while, as I’d read in another review. Staff leave at 10pm, and after that you’re basically on your own with a security guard I never saw. You have to figure out anything you need yourself. There’s no TV, fridge, or cooler for water or juice. I wouldn’t recommend it or stay again, especially for $80 a night.

The sunrise is beautiful, and the fish at the restaurant was excellent. Still, the hotel needs renovation as soon as possible. It could be quite nice if they put more effort into it. There was no air conditioning, the jacuzzi didn’t work, and we had no hot water or working shower. I asked them to check the shower, but it was never looked at.

The rooms are laid out so each one gets a great ocean view, and every room has a large, fairly private patio or balcony. We ate well at the restaurant, right beside the waves. The staff were attentive and very friendly. The owner has done a great job with the place.
