The cliffside view over the river is the part that really stayed with me. Altos de Chavón has a handcrafted 16th-century Mediterranean village look, with lovely stonework and winding cobbled lanes, and it feels almost like a film set. It’s a peaceful break from the usual beach scene and one of the most photogenic places in the DR. The huge stone amphitheater is worth seeing too, where legends like Frank Sinatra used to perform.

There are plenty of nice little shops, with something fun for everyone. It’s also a good place to stop for lunch or a drink. What a great spot.

The fruit trees made for one of the nicest parts of my afternoon at Altos de Chavón. Workers offered us limoncillo, a local fruit commonly used in the Dominican Republic, and that little taste made the visit feel especially authentic. I loved how peaceful the place felt. The views were breathtaking, and the storybook style of the village, its paths and architecture, sits beautifully among the surrounding nature. Everything seemed thoughtfully designed while still feeling natural. It was a dreamlike place to wander, with lovely details all around. I left feeling like I’d stepped into a fairytale, and I’d definitely like to visit again.

I wish I’d had longer here. It’s a beautiful little hidden oasis, and I can only imagine how it looks after dark. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

I was pleasantly surprised to find an annex of parsons school of design here. The place feels like a Mediterranean village transported to the Dominican Republic, with beautiful cobblestones, an amphitheater, and lots of restaurants and shops.
