Casa Dorado Bed & Breakfast

The service and food at Casa Dorado are both wonderful, and the house is spacious but still cozy. It’s a one-of-a-kind stay beside some of the Dominican Republic’s most beautiful beaches. I’ve returned several times since my first visit and keep recommending it to people who want somewhere private and less touristy. I can’t think of a better place in Las Galeras!

Casa Dorado feels like a home away from home, far from the usual tourist traps. It’s one of my favorite places on the island, and a great base for exploring some of the Dominican Republic’s most breathtaking landscapes and beaches. The breakfast is the best and sets you up for the day. Leonel is a wonderful host, always glad to give directions and cook a tasty Dominican meal. I highly recommend a visit to Casa Dorado in Las Galeras on your next trip to the Dominican Republic. You won’t regret it.

Casa Dorado’s warm decor made the home feel so welcoming, almost like my dream house. The living room was comfortable and family-friendly, with cable TV and a DVD library for a quiet evening on the couch. I also loved the little extras, like Connect 4 and dominoes, and the collection of books upstairs, which I browsed from one of the really comfy hammocks. We stayed during peak whale-watching season with a friend, her husband, and their teenage daughter, and had a great time. Leonel greeted us warmly. We found out the next morning that he’s an amazing cook: breakfast was delicious, and the service was attentive. He knows the area well and easily connected us with local services, places to visit, and things to do in Samaná. The house is a short walk from the beach, restaurants, and nightlife, but far enough away to enjoy some much-needed peace and quiet. It’s a lovely B&B that fits Las Galeras perfectly.

The house is comfortable and homey, with several room options that work well for a large group. The common areas let everyone spend time together, while still leaving space to spread out and enjoy the Caribbean pace of life. I’d happily return, and hope to soon. Leonel and Catherine made the stay special. Leonel cooked, guided us, kept an eye on things, and even taught us a few rounds of dominoes. The food was great, especially his hummus, which beat some Greek restaurants I’ve tried. He was incredibly attentive. Catherine, the property owner, gave us helpful advice about things to do around town and made us feel at home. We really felt we had the inside scoop on Las Galeras. The location is hard to beat. It’s set back from town, so it’s quiet, and right by one of Samaná’s best-kept secrets: a fantastic hike to Playa Rincon, one of the Caribbean’s top-rated beaches. A few nights here with friends was a pleasure. I’d strongly recommend it if you’re planning a Las Galeras trip.
