I’m not sure why the restaurant doesn’t show up on Maps, but dinner was excellent. We tried a lot, and all the seafood dishes were great. The grilled seafood platter had a delicious sauce that added just the right bit of extra flavor; the octopus and squid were tender, and the ceviche was great too. Steak was good, the empanadas were unusual and crispy, and the croquetas were amazing. Desserts rounded things off nicely, and the passion fruit caipirinha was tremendous. The one miss was the chicharron, which we left unfinished. The place had a nice atmosphere and wasn't too crowded. Service was good and fairly quick, so we were very happy with dinner.

Our large group had a wonderful, unforgettable visit to The Mosquito Hotel restaurant in Playa Bonita. The atmosphere made it a vacation memory, and the food and hospitality were both excellent. Staff were warm, professional, and attentive, making sure everyone was looked after. A special thanks to manager Rowin, whose hands-on care and dedication kept everything running smoothly. His enthusiasm for giving guests a great experience really showed. Highly recommend it!

Everyone has a point about El Mosquito. Gemini's advice was a mojito at golden hour and sleep somewhere else. My friend recommended it, booked a different beach for every day of her trip, then quietly spent most of her time on this same stretch of sand. Google has 1,576 reviews averaging 4.3. After spending a day there, I can see why people disagree. The beach itself is the part nobody disputes. Playa Bonita is the best stretch around, the water is unreal, and you can swim for hours. Entry is free, but day guests can't borrow towels. I forgot mine and had to buy one for 2,500 pesos, the most expensive towel I've ever bought. There's no table service, so you fetch everything yourself, and it gets packed by midday. Those are the tradeoffs for a beautiful beach day. The food gets a little too much hype from AI and Maps. Gemini raves about the Peruvian chef's ceviche, and reviewers love the seafood platter. When I went, they were out of sancocho and chivo stew. I like to think the locals got there first. The backup beef sandwich was just okay, and the tuna tiradito was a fair 7/10. But the beetroot carpaccio was genuinely excellent, the lime and ginger mocktail was the right choice, and the chocolate mousse could end friendships. The kitchen can cook, so order what's actually available. Come on Sunday for the sancocho everyone keeps talking about. A couple of things to know: the DJ starts at 4 p.m., which is perfect if you're there to party but a surprise if you came to nap to the waves. Rooms are basic, so you're paying for the location and atmosphere, not the thread count. Service slows down when it's slammed, though it's a small beachfront place handling a lot, and the bar is handy when the kitchen is buried. For a pure beach day in Las Terrenas, I still think this is the best place to go, whether you find it cheap or pricey. Don't overthink it, bring your own towel, and try to time your visit for Sunday. Next stop for me is Chin Chin cocktail bar, because after that 2,500-peso towel, somebody owes me a properly great drink.

The hotel was okay, but for the price, setting, and reputation, I expected more. Breakfast was very good and had plenty of tasty choices. The room was clean, though small and cramped for what it cost. The shower has no door and faces the bedroom, which can feel awkward if you're not with a significant other. There were only a few loungers on the sand, which didn't seem like enough for the number of guests. Service was uneven. Some employees were friendly, but interactions at the front desk, bar, and restaurant generally didn't feel warm. The welcome was also different from the accommodating service I've had at other hotels in the area and elsewhere in the Dominican Republic. At the beach, nobody checked on us while we were sitting there to see if we wanted to order. One moment left a particularly bad impression. I went to the bar for two piña coladas, then sat at a table in the common area nearby. The space was mostly empty, with several large tables unoccupied. A waiter said we couldn't sit there because there were only two of us. I said we were finishing our drinks and would move if the table was needed. He rolled his eyes, answered with visible attitude, and walked away. It felt needlessly rude.

The room was just okay: a small queen room with a very partial ocean view, one nightstand, no luggage racks or chairs, and a tiny balcony with two chairs. The bathroom was basic, housekeeping only okay, and water was provided only on the first night. Overall, the room felt pretty meh. The location on Playa Bonita is great, though the water right there wasn't good for swimming. Follow the lovely walkway to the left and you'll reach much calmer, better swimming water. Breakfast had lots of choices and good coffee, and we enjoyed our one dinner there too.
