Hotel Villas del Mar

I booked a stay but couldn't use the reservation. Even after contacting the hotel several times, I got no refund or other solution. Customer service was unresponsive and unhelpful. I wouldn't recommend booking unless you're certain your plans won't change. They don't seem to value guests' time or money.

Alexis took great care of us, and the staff were super friendly. It's right by the beach, and compared with other places I've stayed, this was very nice. The water isn't freezing, but it's cold, especially in the morning, and the pressure is low. Still, I'd stay here again if I came back to the area.

I paid for two nights but had to leave before 24 hours because of an emergency. After I argued and said I'd report what happened because I had it on video, they refunded me, but kept part of my money. There's no one available at all times to help if you have a problem. The included breakfast wasn't sanitary, and the ingredients seemed very low quality. The eggs looked black, as if rotten, and beaten afterward. The pool is just a full tank of water, with no pump, chlorine, or anything to keep bacteria away. When the power goes out, the generator doesn't run the air conditioning, so you have to sweat like a dog until power comes back.

The pool drew us in, but the water was cloudy, maybe because of a filtering problem. Families with young kids may like the space outside for running around. The grounds are beautiful, it's very quiet, and it's nearly right on the beach. Customer service was a little rough: we waited over an hour for one room to be cleaned, at least half an hour past check-in, and our two rooms were on different floors. The place needs maintenance, and the air conditioner was very loud. The people were nice.
