A few weeks before our 2026 trip, we learned that Riviera Azul had overbooked its own inventory. We had booked with them in November 2025, and they moved us to a completely different place that wasn’t comparable. We only saw how different it was from what we’d been told once we arrived on site. Instead of beachfront lodging with the full meal plan we chose for older, less mobile family members, we got a noisy apartment on the street. It was never cleaned during our stay, had no toilet paper and was missing other amenities, so we bought our own. Then we were told we had to pay hundreds more in cash to the other place, on top of what we’d already paid Riviera Azul. They said cash was required to avoid government taxes. Neither entity took responsibility or apologized. It was a nightmare for my family, and all they seemed to care about was getting more money. They expect us to believe their explanation for the fees.

The food, service, and view were excellent.

The one thing we liked was the beachfront location. The meal itself was a really bad experience. We waited almost two hours, and then only some of us got our food. The rest had to wait until we’d finished eating before theirs arrived. Some dishes were cold, and the menu descriptions weren’t accurate. The mashed potatoes, for example, were actually baked potatoes.

I used to like this place more than almost anywhere, but over the past couple of years it’s gone from bad to worse. The security staff are disrespectful. Whenever I try to come with my family, they make me feel unwelcome in my own apartment.
