Aparta Hotel Casa Clara

I stayed here for five months and liked it, though I’m pretty laid back and had already been living in the DR for two years. It’s in the part of San Pedro that Dominicans would call the centro, so power usually doesn’t go out for 4-5 hours every day like it does outside that area. During my stay it still went out for a few days. Lorenzo looks after the building and can get you a 5-gallon water jug or a gas tank for a small portable stove when you run out. My apartment had a balcony, though not all of them do, and getting through two doors before reaching your room made the place feel secure. It cost much less than the other apartahotels I checked, and seemed cleaner and nicer too. Some rooms have AC, but that nearly doubles the price because electricity is expensive. There are two ceiling fans. I bought an extra standing fan for about $25, and it made a big difference. For the price, I loved staying here, and Lorenzo is usually on top of things.
