FIXIE LOFTS - Colonial Villa Suites with Pool

The loft was a hit with my daughters. It was thoughtfully arranged, with beautiful details throughout, and you can feel the care behind the design and the experience they want guests to have. We stayed at Fixie in the Zona Colonial of Santo Domingo, and I’d love to come back for a couple more nights to enjoy it more fully. As an architect, I especially appreciated the historic building and the thoughtful renovation that preserves its character. The whole property was very clean, and the common areas were as beautiful as the rooms. The pool area looked amazing, though I wasn’t able to enjoy it on this visit and look forward to doing so another time. It’s beautifully renovated and in a great spot, close to everything and surrounded by history, restaurants, and culture, which makes the area easy to explore on foot. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates design, history, and a great location in the heart of the Zona Colonial.

The courtyard is where the city noise seems to fall away. There’s a pool that doubles as a fountain, with birds and water sounds all around. You’re still right in the middle of Santo Domingo’s Zona Colonial, with little coffee shops and restaurants nearby, and bikes available to rent. The building is part of a remodeled structure that keeps the original walls of the first hospital in the Americas. The owners seem to have put real love into it. There’s no TV, which makes it easy to disconnect while staying in such an interesting, varied city.

The villa looked even better in person than in the pictures, and the host was easy to reach and work with when we needed a couple of last-minute accommodations. We were in town for a wedding at a hotel only a few blocks away, so the location worked perfectly. Lots of restaurants, shops, and late-night options are also within walking distance. We had a great stay.

I changed my plans after a friend stayed here a couple of weeks before my trip and recommended it over the mainstream places I’d been considering. Glad I listened. The apartment has a great look, and its modern touches fit right in with the building’s historic feel. The courtyard pool was a nice extra, too. Zona Colonial is easy to explore on foot from here, with plenty of restaurants, museums, and things to do close by. I’d happily come back and recommend it to anyone visiting.
