Hotel Colonial Blanco

The rooms are small and show their age, though they’re clean. I gave them three stars because you can’t expect much at this price, and other hotels at this price in Santo Domingo are really bad. There’s no hot water, but you get what you pay for. The rooms do have air conditioning. Even though the hotel is on calle conde, the DR’s busiest walking street, it’s very, very quiet. I’d stay here again for a night or two.

I checked in at 8:00 PM and paid cash, then found there was no water in my room. I tried calling and texting the front desk without a reply. I also spoke to them in person and waited 30 minutes, but the problem still wasn’t fixed. They refused a refund and told me to pursue it through the booking platform. The room was in disappointing shape, visibly falling apart, with a poor-condition roof and water leaking into the bathroom from above. The whole experience was extremely unsatisfactory, and I felt I had to share this feedback.

The front desk woman handled our arrival badly. She said the hotel had no available room because repairs were needed, then offered to book us somewhere eight minutes away on foot. We could still see rooms listed on booking.com, where we had booked, so we didn't see why we should be turned away and walk elsewhere. We left and found another nice hotel. If you're after a pleasant stay in Santo Domingo, I'd skip this place.

The location is ideal, but the stay was full of problems. Our room was tiny and its bathroom door was missing altogether. Breakfast was consistently late, and it took 24 hours after asking to get a towel. One night the power and water both went out, so I paid to move to another hotel and received no refund. The main entrance also jammed while locked several times; once I waited half an hour for help. I wouldn't recommend it.
