Hotel Merey

The location works well in the daytime, with lots of shops in the colonial area, but at night our group felt uneasy outside and didn't want to linger. We were told to park in front of the hotel so it could be watched, even though the listing claimed parking was available. We booked three rooms that day and got a hard time about whether they were available. They wanted us to pay extra for larger rooms because the ones we'd requested weren't available. Eventually they gave us the other rooms without charging more, since it was their website that hadn't been updated. The rooms were very dim, and one had a smoking smell. One was missing toilet paper, another had no towels, and there was no AC remote. They looked clean as far as we could tell in the poor light, though I saw a small roach pass the bed's headboard. It's fine for one night if you're desperate.

We booked through the hopper app, but the receptionist couldn't find our reservation. He was sarcastic and rude, and even though I spoke Spanish to him, he didn't communicate much. He never offered us breakfast. In our room the bathroom light didn't work and the sink was clogged. The pictures are misleading. The price is good and it's close to Zona Colonial, but we had such a bad time that we ended up leaving.

The staff were friendly and tried to help us find another room after ours had been given away, though it took forever and the hotel we ended up in was bad. We had told them we'd arrive late, and they had our card, so I don't know why they gave our room away. They emailed saying we could pay to guarantee the room and offered to send a payment link. I asked for it, but they never sent it.

The price and being close to everything were the only decent parts. The hotel taxi charged two to five times the usual taxi or Uber fare, and the staff weren't helpful, seeming to try to cheat you out of money. I ordered breakfast advertised at $5 USD, got two dry pieces of toast, one egg, and two sausage links, then was told it cost $10 USD. The rooms don't look like the posted pictures. Streets were full of garbage, and locals blasted Latin music from 8am to 9pm every day. There was lots of outside noise, including arguments and fights on weekend nights. The room phones and reception phone didn't work, so any problem meant going downstairs. There are five floors and no elevator.
