Mauad Hotel Boutique

We stayed for a week and would come back. It’s a new, modern hotel with friendly, bilingual staff who were exceptional. We asked about an upgrade and got a free ocean view room; they seem accommodating when they have extras. The TVs are large, and the bathrooms and showers are spacious. There are a few minor new-hotel snags: no room service menu or directory in the room, and limited nightstand space. The room safes aren’t secured down, so I wouldn’t leave a Rolex in one, though they’re fine for basic things. For this price range in Santo Domingo, it’s a good value for a modern, full service, resort style hotel.

What I remember most is Laura Vargas's kindness. I was stressed and overwhelmed after my passport was stolen in Punta Cana and I had to travel to Santo Domingo to visit the embassy. Laura was attentive and supportive, and made a real difference. The rest of the staff were welcoming and professional, too. Hotel Maewald was a choice I’m grateful I made on an unplanned trip. It’s a stylish, modern new property in a fast developing area, but still convenient for getting around. The pool is lovely and relaxing, breakfast was solid, and there’s even a nightclub inside. It’s a great space that deserves to be busier.

The street and nightclub noise made it hard to get peace, and the breakfast noise in the morning was significant. I wouldn’t recommend the 12th floor. The ocean view was stunning, though, and the rooms were spacious. Breakfast was included and good.

I just checked out after four days, and Laura Vargas at the front desk made a good hotel excellent for me. She went above and beyond and seemed to genuinely care. It was a pleasure being greeted so warmly. The other employees were good too, but Laura stood out. I own three companies and know how much employees shape a business. People like her help a company flourish, and she represents yours so well. Thank you, Laura. Everyone sees what you do, whether they say so or not.
