Isla de Baños Hosteria y Spa

We left after one sleepless night, even though we'd booked three. By local Banos standards the hotel is pretty and clean, and our superior room was spacious, but it was a bit worn. The mattresses varied in age and quality. The small, basic windows and fly screens did little to keep noise out. A nearby theme park played music and artificial animal sounds through the day, until 10 p.m. Dogs barked at night, then at 6:30 a.m. the school directly behind the hotel turned its yard music up full volume, on top of the usual school noise. We understand the hotel can't control the surrounding noise, but we needed to sleep and recharge. The staff were friendly and tried hard, though breakfast was understaffed when we visited and they struggled a little with the rush. Our shower was over the bathtub with no cubicle, so every shower flooded the bathroom and got all our things wet. Staff said nobody had reported this before, which we found unbelievable. We were also uncomfortable that room keys sat in a small box on the reception desk, accessible to everyone and out of staff's sight. There was no room safe, and the hotel accepted no liability. It has some nice points, but also deal breakers for us. We wouldn't return. Five days after we posted this review, the hotel replied that I had discussed the noise with management. That's not true. They also said they'd recommended alternative accommodation suited to our needs, which is also untrue. We never complained to them about the noise, since it wasn't something the hotel could change. I also didn't know the hotel "perfectly" from two nights in 2019. The surroundings had obviously changed. I politely asked the hotel to stick to the truth in its response to customer feedback, out of respect for each other, but sadly they didn't even answer.

The hotel looks lovely, with nice decoration and style. The room was a good size, the breakfast was good, and the staff were helpful and very nice. The location was great, too. One disappointment: the spa services, including massages and the hot tub, weren't available on weekdays. Since the hotel is advertised with spa services, even in its name, and given the price, we were surprised to find this out when we arrived.

Fabian welcomed us warmly when we arrived late and let us park inside the closed gates. He also gave us great tips on activities and places to visit in town. The place was clean and tidy, with a great breakfast. A homey place to sleep and really great service. Very grateful for our stay here :)

Amazing, just one word. We'd had a horrible night at another place, then Susie looked after us here. The bedroom was phenomenal, the view was awesome, breakfast spectacular, and the price very reasonable. The saunas and spa were so relaxing. 100 out of 100.
