Hotel Yanuncay

There was always hot water, the rooms were good, and the service was excellent. I'd highly recommend it to other gringos.

That bed and bedding were so comfortable, the only thing that got me out was knowing breakfast was downstairs. Staff were hardworking and gracious, bringing extra pillows and towels. The place was immaculate, and you wouldn't know pets were allowed. Breakfast had fresh panderia bread each day, eggs cooked how you like them, and delicious extras. The coffee was the smoothest and hottest I'd had, and even the milk for it was hot. The elevator was fast and never out of order. WiFi was good, with a router on every floor. Don't miss the sunroom upstairs on the top floor, the city view is spectacular. I even caught a little fireworks display from up there.

Hotel Yanuncay saved our holiday weekend. My husband and I showed up on a whim after a hotel down the same road, which I'll call Casa Poop, lost the reservation we'd booked and confirmed weeks earlier. The woman at its desk wasn't apologetic and didn't try to help us find somewhere else. She just shrugged, said everything was probably booked, then sat quietly while we searched on our phones. At least she let us use the WiFi. It was a holiday weekend, with lots of people in town and an arts and crafts festival by the river, so plenty of places really were full. Still, Cuenca is a big town. Acting like every room was gone and we shouldn't even try was frustrating. We walked one block and spotted Hotel Yanuncay. The guys at the front desk smiled and waved us in through the glass, so we asked if they had a room. They did, and let us check in right away even though it wasn't noon yet. The room was great and clean, and the hotel was clean and well furnished. There's a bar and restaurant downstairs, plus a naturally lit lounge area on each floor. The staff were awesome and welcoming, and breakfast was included. We checked in earlier than we would have at our original booking, and it cost less, too. We're so grateful the kind staff waved us through those glass doors. Who knows where we'd have ended up, maybe under a bridge since apparently every room in town was booked. I'd definitely recommend Hotel Yanuncay and would stay again.

The rooms and included breakfast were great, the WiFi was top-notch, and the service was perfect. It's close to the old center and wonderful value for money. I'd give it six stars if I could.
