La Casa Cuencana

From La Casa Cuencana, it was easy to walk to the central square, parks, museums, and the flower and handicraft markets. There were plenty of restaurants nearby too, including places serving typical Ecuadorian food. We stayed in Centro Histórico for two weeks over Christmas and New Year’s 2023. Our private room and bathroom were comfortable, and we could use the full kitchen. It was a great stay in a lovely, safe city.

Being right in the heart of the city made getting around so easy. Museums, churches, and restaurants were close by, so sleeping in was hard to do! I stayed here for about two weeks at the beginning of August and had a wonderful time in Cuenca. There’s good Wi-Fi, plus a kitchen and dining area if you want to cook. The staff are very sweet, welcoming, and understanding, and available 24/7 when needed. Ask if you need anything, they’re happy to help.

It’s a different kind of hostel, more like having a house with someone there to help around the clock. You get keys to the front door and your room, and it feels like your own place during the stay. The price is good, and the beds are clean. Just know there’s no breakfast, and on a short stay they won’t clean your bathroom or bring fresh towels.

The suites I’ve stayed in have a couch, kitchenette, and balcony, though I’ve also tried the private rooms and the dorm. The beds are the best, comfy with great pillows and blankets, and the place is sparkling clean with fantastic internet. It’s in the historic district, close to the river, market, and main attractions. An Ecuadorian family runs it and really cares about people, which helps explain all the long-term guests who don’t want to leave. I’ve stayed in Cuenca many times, and this is my favorite spot in the city and one of the best in Ecuador. I’ll be back!
