Funky Monkey Hostel

I was in Guayaquil for two weeks, waiting to get into the embassy for personal business, after arriving by bus from porta lopez Ecuador to go to the US consulate. I found hostel “funky monkey near both the airport and bus station, at the top of my Google search. The taxi cost 5 dollars, or 3 if you negotiate at the station. I rang the doorbell and was met at the door, and availability wasn’t a problem with travel limited. The rooms pleased me. All three rooms were clean and had strong AC, so staying cool was never an issue. Once I figured out that the shower heads adjust at the top, I had hot showers. That’s great for a hostel. The covered outdoor kitchen was always clean and working, and fresh water was free. Laundry was 4.00 a load to wash and dry. The pool outside was clean and a nice place to lounge in the evening. Lighting is adjustable in all common areas. There are cameras outside, in the entry area, and in the common area. All external doors lock and entry is controlled, but it’s never a problem. The location is great: mal del sol is a one block walk, the police station is .5 block away, and good places to eat and a convenience store are all within 3-4 blocks. Streets are busy during the day, but I felt safe at all times. I had no issues in the evening, though at night I mostly relaxed inside in the hostel common area. The owners and staff have a working knowledge of English. As someone who hiked the Appalachian trail, I’ll say it was a good stay.

The WIFI is superb, and the location felt very safe and was great. It’s a family business with amazing hospitality. Freddy was a wonderful host and even picked me up from the airport in his car. Five stars, and I’ll be back.

3hey, people, if you wanna save cash, come stay at monkey hostel. They have rooms for 2 or rooms with bunkbeds for 4n more persons, and it’s very economical. Look me up and I’ll show you around Guayaquil and make sure you have fun.

Freddie made us feel welcome, but the bed was hard and it was very noisy until 3am.
