This is about the restaurant, not the hotel. The building is beautiful in a rustic, historic way, though I wouldn't call it luxurious. The service has always been impeccable, but the food is a real gamble. The $17 octopus appetizer was just three tiny pieces, badly overcooked and so chewy they weren't edible. It came with two formed hash brown triangles and a frozen onion ring, a bizarre combination. My medium-rare Lomo Tenderloin arrived rare instead. The steak was cold and hard to cut, so I left some. The sauce, salad, and papas, though, were all delicious. The dessert was meant to be blueberry apple cinnamon pie, but it had big, hard bits of something strongly flavored, maybe cloves or a cinnamon stick. Whatever they were, they overwhelmed the dish and clashed with the soft fruit. Just weird. The wine was another disappointment: they charged $40 for a cheap, low-end bottle, I think Reservado, and the only wine by the glass was a weak, watery one from a single vineyard in Chile. Hard to believe there weren't other choices. I'd give it three stars instead of two if the prices matched the food's quality and value. For this area, the restaurant is really overpriced.

The restaurant wasn't impressive. The food took ages, the staff seemed to disappear even with only one other table, and the dishes weren't cooked as requested. Still, we had a great stay. During our two weeks in Ecuador, this hotel had the best staff, the best shower, and the quietest rooms. Great location, too. The many people on reception really deserve recognition.

It's a beautiful place right in the city center, but it isn't somewhere to come for a rest. You can hear everything happening in the hotel, every little movement.

A charming little boutique hotel in a great spot.

Everything else was great, from the food and service to the beds :). Since so much of the place is preserved and restored, I do think the floor could use a little work to cut down on the noise.
